My heart sinks
beneath the screams
of the powerless souls
as their tears vanish
and silence follows
Shadows scatter like broken prayers
souls stray like wingless wishes
as a scene of horror
summons them all
The mother stands above the remnants of the ruined house
The child strays, stranded and lost
The father lies buried beneath the rubble
As their lives and stories become nothing more than a headline
And a voice silenced behind bars
Innocent dreams shred into ashes
and foolish hopes drown in despair
under the regiment of lies
and in the burning smoke of skies
Yet, the thirst for power
never quenches
and never dries
In a land of ruins,
the devils walk with their heads high
the demons laugh at the forsaken demise
What more could they want,
when the wider world bends to their whims?
Birds sing for the voiceless souls
soil etches their footprints on burnt pages
the river carries the forgotten names
the trees carve their unhealed grief
and the wind whispers the untold truths
The story will remain
as long as the land remembers
But the innocent eyes
and broken souls
are blinded by a hope,
a false hope for justice never awoken
a broken promise of stolen freedom,
forever chained and naïve
in a doorless cage
and an endless void
Little did they know
Humanity died ages ago
